General Description of Orthoses: Orthoses are custom designed and/or fitted anatomical devices applied externally on the human body which are intended to provide support and/or control of disorders associated with neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal dysfunctions.
The need for orthotic services can be related to a variety of musculoskeletal and/or neuromuscular disorders and/or dysfunctions of the body. Some of the most common diagnoses and disorders requiring orthotic services are identified below as follows:

Hand Orthosis (HO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders of the hand and/or fingers below the wrist joint.
Wrist/Hand Orthosis (WHO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders of the wrist, hand and/or fingers below the elbow joint.
Wrist Orthosis (WO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders only involving the wrist.
Elbow/Wrist/Hand Orthosis (EWHO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders of the elbow, wrist, hand and/or fingers below the shoulder joint.
Elbow Orthosis (EO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders only involving the elbow.
Shoulder/Elbow/Wrist/Hand Orthosis (SEWHO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand and/or fingers.
Shoulder Orthosis (SO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders only involving the shoulder.
Foot Orthosis (FO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders of the foot below the ankle joint.
Ankle/Foot Orthosis (AFO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders of the ankle and foot below the knee joint.
Ankle Orthosis (AO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders only involving the ankle.
Knee/Ankle/Foot Orthosis (KAFO): Utilized for the treatment of disorders of the knee, ankle and foot below the hip joint.

MRI Compatible Halo-Type Cervical Stabilization Orthosis: Utilized for emergency and/or post-surgical stabilization of cervical spine.
Postural Seating Orthosis: Utilized for stabilization of the upper body for seating purposes when marked paralysis and/or scoliosis is present.
Custom Assistive Mobility Orthosis: Utilized for assisting or achieving specialized mobility needs for ambulation or wheelchair use.
General Description of Pedorthics: Pedorthics are custom designed and/or fitted anatomical devices that are applied below the ankle specifically for the treatment of foot and ankle disorders associated with neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal dysfunctions, including amputations.
Diabetic and/or Insensate Foot Orthoses: Utilized for the accommodation, support and protection of severe foot disorders related to diabetes and/or neuropathy.
Pressure Relief Insole Foot Orthoses: Utilized for the accommodation, support and relief of localized painful foot disorders and/or injuries.
Custom Molded Orthopedic Shoes: Utilized for the accommodation and support of severe foot disorders and deformities, as well as the accommodation of custom molded foot orthoses.
Extra-Depth Orthopedic Shoes: Utilized for the accommodation and support of complex foot disorders, as well as the accommodation of custom molded foot orthoses.
Custom Designed Orthoses: Orthoses which are custom made and designed from an anatomical positive model, specific anatomical measurements and/or contour drawings of the affected limb, torso or spine for the purpose of providing support and/or control of complex neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal disorders.
Custom Fitted Orthoses: Orthoses which are pre-made in specific anatomical sizes and are modified and custom fitted to the affected limb or spine to control moderate or complex neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal disorders.
Pre-Fabricated Orthoses: Orthoses which are pre-made in generic anatomical sizes and shapes ie.; small, medium and large, and are fitted to the affected limb or spine to control mild neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal disorders or for the purpose of evaluating the need for a custom designed orthosis.
Molded Plastic Orthoses: Orthoses fabricated of either thermoplastic or thermoset resin plastics as the primary material in design of the device.
Molded Plastic & Metal Orthoses: Orthoses fabricated of either thermoplastic or thermoset resin plastics and metal joints as the primary materials in the design of the device.
Metal & Leather Orthoses: Orthoses fabricated of metal and leather as the primary materials in the design of the device.
Fabric or Neoprene Orthoses: Orthoses fabricated of cloth fabrics or neoprene as the primary materials in the design of the device.
