General Prosthetic Services
General Description of Prostheses: Prostheses are custom designed and/or fitted anatomical devices applied externally to the human body for the purpose of restoring congenital and/or acquired neuromuscular and musculoskeletal dysfunctions of the human body associated with the complete or partial absence of a limb.
Common Prosthetic Disorders
The need for prosthetic services can be related to a variety of musculoskeletal and/or neuromuscular disorders and/or dysfunctions of the body. Some of the most common diagnoses and disorders requiring prosthetic services are identified below as follows:

Common Prosthetic Diagnoses and Disorders: Traumatic Limb Amputation; Congenital Limb Absence; Partial Hand/Finger Amputation; Hand Amputation; Wrist Disarticulation Amputation; Below Elbow Amputation; Elbow Disarticulation Amputation; Above Elbow Amputation; Shoulder Disarticualtion Amputation; Scapular/Thoracic Amputation; Foot Amputation; Partial Foot Amputation; Syme's Amputation; Chopart's Amputation; Below Knee Amputation; Knee Disarticulation Amputation; Above Knee Amputation; Hip Disarticulation; Hemi-Pelvectomy Amputation; Peripheral Vascular Disease Amputation; Diabetic Limb Amputation; Brachial Plexus Injury Amputation.

Upper/Limb Prostheses
Partial Hand Prosthesis (PHP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the hand and/or fingers below the wrist.

Wrist Disarticulation Prosthesis (WDP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the hand or forearm through the wrist joint.

Below Elbow Prosthesis (BEP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the hand or below the forearm.

Elbow Disarticulation Prosthesis (EDP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the hand or forearm through the elbow joint.

Above Elbow Prosthesis (AEP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the hand, forearm and elbow above the elbow.

Shoulder Disarticulation Prosthesis (SDP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the complete arm involving the hand, forearm, elbow and upper arm through the shoulder joint.

Scapular-Thoracic Prosthesis (STP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the complete arm involving the hand, forearm, elbow, upper arm and shoulder through the scapular-thoracic juncture.
Lower/Limb Prostheses
Partial Foot Prosthesis (PFP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the foot and/or toes below the ankle.

Syme's Prosthesis (SP): Utilized for amputations of the foot and ankle just above the ankle joint.

Below Knee Prosthesis (BKP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the foot and ankle below the knee.

Knee Disarticulation Prosthesis (KDP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the foot, ankle and shin at the knee joint level.

Above Knee Prosthesis (AKP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the foot, ankle, shin and thigh above the knee joint level.

Hip Disarticulation Prosthesis (HDP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the complete leg involving the foot, ankle, shin and thigh at the hip joint level.

Hemipelvectomy Prosthesis (HP): Utilized for amputations or congenital absences of the complete leg involving the foot, ankle, shin, thigh, hip and pelvis.
Specialized Prosthetic Services
Immediate Post-Operative Prosthesis (IPOP): Utilized for immediate and/or emergency application of an upper or lower limb prosthesis due to a traumatic or elective amputation.

Avocational Sports & Recreational Prosthesis: Utilized for specialized participation in avocational activities such as athletic competition, golf, tennis, canoeing, swimming, hunting, fishing, etc.

Vocational Prosthesis: Utilized for achieving specific vocational goals and objectives, such as farming, industrial assembly line work, electronics assembly, etc.

Hybrid Upper Limb Prosthesis: Utilized for achieving myoelectric, switch and/or bowden cable control of a highly functional upper limb prosthesis.
General Mastectomy Services
General Description of Mastectomy Prostheses: Mastectomy prostheses are custom fitted anatomical devices applied externally to the human body for the purpose of restoring a congenital and/or acquired complete or partial absence of a breast.
General Prosthetic Design Characteristics
Custom Designed Prostheses: Prostheses are custom made from an anatomical positive model of an individual's residual limb and in accordance with anatomical measurements of the sound limb.

Pre-Fabricated Prostheses: Prostheses are not pre-made in general anatomical sizes except for a temporary residual limb interface utilized in the design for a preparatory prosthesis.
General Prosthetic Structural Design Classifications
Endoskeletal Prostheses: Prostheses with a soft exterior covering and designed with an internal supporting structural system or components.

Exoskeletal Prostheses: Prostheses with a hard exterior covering and designed with rigid reinforced external supporting structural system or shell.
